Use this guide to understand the subject before choosing a service or submitting an application. The information is educational and should be considered alongside your own records, responsibilities, and professional advice when needed.

Define the use of funds

Name the exact business need, requested amount, timing, and expected result. Inventory, equipment, marketing, and working capital have different timelines and risks. A simple use-of-funds budget makes the request easier to evaluate.

Understand revenue and cash flow

Revenue is money earned; cash flow tracks when money actually enters and leaves the business. Review deposits, operating expenses, existing obligations, seasonality, and cash reserves to see whether a new payment can fit.

Prepare likely documents

Depending on the provider, a review may request formation records, identification, bank statements, tax records, invoices, ownership information, or a business plan. Requirements vary, and sensitive files should only be shared through an appropriate process.

Evaluate repayment and terms

Review payment frequency, total cost, fees, collateral, guarantees, default terms, and prepayment provisions. Test the payment against a slower revenue period. Funding should support a practical goal without creating an obligation the business cannot reasonably manage.

What to remember

  • Define the amount, timing, and exact use before applying.
  • Revenue and available cash are not the same.
  • Prepare complete, current, and consistent records.
  • Read the full terms; readiness never guarantees approval or a specific offer.
